Old Forge, Pennsylvania: The Pizza Capital of the World

Naples, Italy is the birthplace of pizza. But the small town of Old Forge, Pennsylvania proudly claims the title of “Pizza Capital of the World.” Located in Lackawanna County, this charming town is home to a unique style of pizza beloved by locals and visitors alike.

What Makes Old Forge Pizza Special?

  • Shape & Slice – Unlike the classic triangular slices, Old Forge pizza is baked in rectangular trays and served in “cuts” rather than slices.
  • Two Signature Styles – Red Pizza features a thick, fluffy crust topped with a zesty tomato sauce and a blend of cheeses, while White Pizza is a double-crusted pie stuffed with cheese, herbs, and sometimes potatoes or vegetables.
  • Community Tradition – Generations of families have run Old Forge’s pizza restaurants, passing down recipes like treasured heirlooms.

Bringing Old Forge Flavors to the Back Mountain

Chef Frank is passionate about keeping Old Forge’s culinary legacy alive. His menu at The Greens at Irem is a perfect marriage of fine dining technique and comfort food nostalgia. Guests can savor traditional dishes as well as Italian-American and the distinctive taste of authentic Old Forge pizza –  made with the same care and attention to detail that put the small town on the culinary map.
