The origins of Irem Temple Country Club in Dallas, Pennsylvania boasts a rich history intertwined with the region’s cultural and recreational development.

Irem Temple Country Club was established in 1922. It was developed by the Irem Shrine Center following the acquisition of the Derr estate. The golf course was designed by renowned architect A.W. Tillinghast. He is celebrated for his contributions to golf course architecture, including notable courses like the Black Course at Bethpage State Park and Winged Foot Golf Club. Tillinghast’s design for Irem Temple Country Club featured a 27-hole layout that took advantage of the scenic hills around Dallas, offering panoramic views of the Wyoming Valley.

Community and Events

Over the decades, Irem Temple Country Club has served as more than just a golfing venue. It has been a central hub for community events, including weddings, showers, and business meetings. The club has also hosted charitable events, such as the Equines for Freedom golf tournament, supporting veterans and first responders dealing with PTSD. Modern Developments

In 2007, recognizing the need for modernization, the Irem Shrine members and the Masonic Village’s board of directors decided to construct a new clubhouse rather than renovate the existing structure. The new 26,868-square-foot facility was completed and opened to the public in May 2008. It features a restaurant, pub, banquet areas, and a halfway house, enhancing the club’s amenities for both members and guests.

In October 2022, the Friedman Hospitality Group entered into a lease agreement with Masonic Villages. They proceed to operate the clubhouse, rebranding it as “The Greens at Irem.” This partnership aims to further integrate the club into the community by offering dining and event services to the public.

Today, Irem Temple Country Club continues to honor its historical roots. It is evolving to meet contemporary needs and remaining a cherished landmark in Dallas, Pennsylvania.
